RE: The old age question, to leave open or closed a boiler automatic fill valve?

I have heard arguments for both sides. I have read conflicting instructions via manufacturers. What is your take on the subject? Do you leave your automatic fill valve open or closed on boilers?

I leave it on

When you fill a boiler, the oxygen eventually is removed by the air separator lowering the pressure…if left off, you will lose heat to at least the upper zones because your static fill pressure cant overcome the head .

I suppose that leaving it on for a predetermined period and then shutting it off would work as well
