Can someone explain the main difference ? And what do most guys use instead now ?

The main difference is that SB8 requires a flux paste to be applied to the pipe while brazing does not.

The distinction that actually defines whether you’re soldering or brazing is the temperature at which the process is done. Soldering is done at around 500°F, while brazing is somewhere up around 1000°F. (Cut off point for making the distinction is 847° IIRC)

The lower temperature and use of flux when soldering means that the copper doesn’t get hot enough for oxidation to form on the inside of the pipe, so sweeping nitrogen is not required.

Always check with manufacturer specs before using flux and making a soldered connection.
