RE: Load Calculation + Equipment Selection in Residential: Why or why not?

Curious how many residential companies are currently working with ACCA’s guidelines on system design.   Is there a way to remain competitive while the appropriate amount of time to do things right, especially in the case of retrofitting?  It seems like there’s so many variables at play, some which I’m blissfully ignorant to.

How does your company approach this?

I see doing load calcs as a way to deliver extra value and stay competitive.  If you’re not doing the calcs, you’re almost always going to be oversizing.  The extra time spent doing a quick block load is going to be more than made up by savings from right-sizing the equipment.

In the process of getting the load calc data, I’m checking out attic, wall and crawlspace/basement insulation and listening to the homeowners’ comfort concerns.  If fixing issues with the building envelope is part of the solution, I provide a quote on an insulation/airsealing package as well.
