RE: BTU math

Hello all,

I seem to remember a formula for calculating heat transfer time. Does anyone know it?

As in..it will 3 BTUS to raise 1 pound of water 3 degrees Fahrenheit, but how long will this take?

thanks!

Unless im not understanding the question, time doesn’t enter into it. 1 BTU is defined as the amount of heat energy needed to raise 1 pound of water by 1 degree farenheit.

This is a theoretical formula and not real world because it doesn’t account for the time span that the heat is applied over (allowing the water to cool off over time) and doesn’t account for things like ambient temperature.
